Chapter Six of The Watcher

Chapter Six
Jane Anne awoke with a start. She had a feeling she was missing something very important to her. She sat up in the bed and tried to think back to what she was doing before she went to sleep last night, but she couldn’t remember at all. It was like something was keeping her from remembering. Just another thing she needed to work through, another memory missing. She shook her head and went back to bed.
The next morning she woke up to the sound of both her cellphone and the hotel room phone ringing. She bound out of bed and picked the cellphone up first.
“Hello, Jane Anne Miller speaking,”
“Jane Anne-San, this is the Prime Minister of Japan, Takinaka Izumi. I am calling on behalf of the Japanese people. I would like to speak to you this morning before the conference today, if you have the time,” The Prime Minister of Japan sounded put out. Like he didn’t want to be talking to Jane Anne but he knew he had to. He had no other choice. He would rather just not speak to her in front of the other heads of state.
“Mr. Takinaka, it would be my pleasure. You would like to speak about your population problems, without the other heads of state chiming in correct,” Jane Anne asked while she shut off the hotel room phone. It was just her 5 am wake up call.
She went to the mini kitchen installed in her room and set the kettle on so she could make tea. Today was going to be a long day she could tell.
“Yes. What is happening in Japan is no body else’s business but ours,” The Prime Minister said sounding very angry.
“Unfortunately, this is where you are wrong Mr. Takinaka. What happens in japan affects the whole world. It is no longer every country for themselves. This is now a global community, and your people are a part of it. What do you think would happen if your country collapsed because there weren’t enough people to run it properly?
“It would have a ripple effect, Mr. Takinaka. The loss of your economy would devastate the world’s economy. All the progress we have been making would come to a screeching halt. So while I will be talking to you before today’s conference we are going to sit and have a frank talk with the other heads about what we can do to help you and you WILL accept our help. Have I made myself clear,” Jane Anne’s tone brooked no arguments. She was not having this man ruin all that the world had worked for.
The Prime Minister made a sound as if to deny Jane Anne, but she interrupted him quickly.
“Mr. Prime Minster, this is NOT up for debate. This needs to happen for the good of everyone. I will meet you in the small conference room on the fourth floor at 7 am. We can sit down then and talk some more about what is going to happen. Your population issue is all that is on the agenda for today, and I want your full corporation once we get to the main conference today. Good day Mr. Prime Minister,” Jane Anne hung up the phone before the Prime Minister could protest again.
She made herself a cup of calming lavender tea, and went to sit on her bed. She was already having a migraine. She glanced at the mirror across from her bed and sighed at her appearance. Her normally curly black hair was matted down to the side of her head. Her chocolate brown skin was washed out and her almond shaped brown eyes were blood shot. The combination of stress and lack of sleep was taking its toll on her. She need a massage or something before she lost her mind.
Jane Anne drank her tea then stood up quickly and used the hotel room phone to make an appointment for a massage that night. She went in to her bathroom and took a shower then got ready for what was looking to be a long, long day.
