Fear

This is the first Chapter of a book I am writing right now. Tell me what you think.

Fear

Chapter One

Her footsteps echoed in the dank, empty hallway of the basement in the Charger City Asylum. They sounded loud to her ears.  It was disconcerting only being able to hear her footsteps and her breath. From the man beside her though, nothing. She couldn’t hear his breath, or his footsteps. It was like he wasn’t there.
“How long has she been here? In the Asylum I mean,” she asked.
“She’s been here since she was six. About fourteen years now.” He told her without looking at her, or slowing down.
“That’s a long time for a person to be underground.”
“She wasn’t here for all fourteen years. She was moved down here five years ago when she became very violent towards the other patients.”
“What set Cy Anna off?”
“Honestly Mrs. Gorment, we don’t know.”
She looked at the man walking beside her. She couldn’t believe this man was running the Asylum.  He looked like he spent his days on some beach, surfing or something. He honestly didn’t look a day over 25.  She wondered what he was doing in this place that stank of desperation, hatred and sadness. She shook her head. It wasn’t her place to question. Her job was to get the girl to agree to help her government.
When they rounded a corner she began to hear loud pounding music. She looked at the man beside her with a question on the tip of her tongue.
“We give her music to keep her calm. She is fine with technology, she just doesn’t like people, or having any kind of human contact,” he told her as he kept walking like that was something they normally did for insane people.
Marrissa didn’t think that Cy Anna was insane though, just traumatized. Who wouldn’t be after witnessing their entire family get slaughtered in front of them by the bastards who had invaded earth 20 years ago. Marrissa shuddered with rage just thinking about it.
The Maaran Guta had invaded Earth 50 years ago and had brought the world to its knees. At first they came “ in peace”, but that façade didn’t last long. They wanted control of Earth and all her natural recourses, something their home planet of Maara Guta lacked.
When Earth didn’t bow to their demands, they started calling in their troops to destroy everything. They didn’t count on Humans being as cunning as they were. The Humans fought back.
They fought long and hard. In the end the Earth had suffered major casualties, but Maara Guta had suffered more. Their armies were wiped out, and what little resources they had left on their planet were depleted supporting their invasion.
They called a cease fire and eventually worked out a peace treaty of sorts with Earth.
If they ever attacked Earth again, their planet and it’s inhabitants would be destroyed.  In return, because Humans are not monsters, many were allowed to come and go from Earth under strict conditions.
Thought Earth had suffered severe casualties the Maara Guta did have it worse. Samples of many of the vegetation on Earth were sent to Maara Guta so that they could cultivate produce to support its people.
Humans were being too nice in Marrissa’s opinion, and she wasn’t alone in her thoughts.
“We are here,” Dr. Aaron Dumar told her as he stopped in front of a door paint completely black. Marrissa’s teeth were chattering because of the sound waves coming out the door of Cy Anna’s room.
Instead of knocking on Cy Anna’s door Dr. Dumar pressed his hand to a panel beside the door, that Marrissa had not noticed. The second his hand hit the door, the music stopped. They waited a moment, then the door was opened by something very unexpected.
